It doesn't really matter if repubs or dems are in power, I think that both parties are only out for themselves .... I think that South Park summed it up pretty well.
The always delightfully troublesome Cartman decides to wage a campaign for a "Turd Sandwich" to become the new school mascot. One of the other kids then tries to top Cartman by promoting a "Giant Douchebag". What initially starts off as a goof among the kids quickly deteriorates into a knock-down, drag-out electoral struggle between the two proposed mascots, and as soon as you see Cartman's gigantic campaign billboard for Turd Sandwhich '04 done in the very same font style as a Bush-Cheney '04 billboard, you get the gist: Turd Sandwich running against Giant Douchebag for South Park school mascot is a direct analogy to the presidential campaign.
And that, my friends, is probably the most truthful assessment of this ridiculous two party system anyone has ever offered on television to date.
That is your choice for president of the United States, the most powerful governmental office not only in this nation, but in the entire world. An office that commands not only an annual budget of over $2 trillion forcibly confiscated from the very population whose life, liberty and property it is supposed to "protect", but also commands the deadliest arsenal of the most technologically advanced weapons of mass destruction the world has ever seen, not to mention a vast army over a million strong that will go bomb and kill whomever the president tells them to go bomb and kill.
Giant Douchebag, or Turd Sandwich. The choice is yours.
Neither alternative is very pleasant, is it? On the one hand, turds aren't exactly tasty (unless you're one of those mentally ill people who have that weird psychological disorder that actually compels them to eat feces), and eating crap can bring on some pretty nasty diseases. On the other hand, having a Giant Douchebag forced up your crotch isn't exactly a delight (especially if you're not even female, and from what I hear from the womenfolk, they don't exactly consider it a good time). Hmmm . . . which to choose?
Have the turd sandwich shoved down my throat, or have the giant douchebag shoved up my crotch? Turd sandwich, giant douchebag . . . turd sandwich, giant douchebag . . . turd sandwich, giant douche bag . . . man, that's a tough one. Decisions, decisions . . . .

David,
Always a pleasure. So let's start. If your argument is to oppose anything the government tries to pass on your behalf as them "shoving a pill down your throat" then you would have likely opposed everything your government has done starting w/the revolutionary war, past the response to Pearl Harbor, all the way to today (pick your recent bill). That's fine. After all it's your right. If I could indulge w/mine I'd consider this demagoguery typical of an obstructionist and/or a reactionary.
BTW, these are not necessarily good traits in a representative democracy.
The gun to the head playing russian roulette.. no comment. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt due to the various conversations we've had in the past and call that one a joke. Though it does show your age and mine since you seem to be drawing from "The Deer Hunter".
As far where to find easy to read language for the health reform bill.. ok.. yet again:

Regarding other countries following the US example in health care, I believe that much of the industrialized world already has addressed that problem.
Not to end in discord, as we never could, let me say that we both agree on your last point. Actually I'd go further. It is not only your right but your responsibility to hold your elected officials accountable. This is why the republicans are in such a mess now that the true leadership of the party is personified by Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck. It gives me no pleasure to say that believe me since I believe the 2 party system needs, well a second party. An opposition one at that.
Come to think of it, since they lost the election the republicans seem to be behaving like the Monty Python argument skit. Complete with profit motive!
Enjoy.

PS: Monty was originally Canadian and not British. Though he apparently changed his citizenship after watching a coconut laden african swallow. A common missaprehension.

Quantum,
Please! You fully understand my meaning about being forced to swallow a pill. They are giving very little information about this "plan" and they are trying to rush and scare the American people into accepting it.
Why not give us time to digest all that comes with this bill.
For example will at some point in the future a government employee be looking into your medical records? If so that interferes with my constitutional rights to illegal search and seizure.
The 2 party system is the biggest crock ever swallowed by the people of any nation. They place 2 stooges up there and in short it does not matter which one you pick as they both suck and play for more or less the same team.
A message was just sent here in NJ though as we booted after one term the governor. The same governor that Obama came to stump for at least 3 different times.
Goodie for us!
what we do need is equal free air time for every candidate no more or less for anyone so that votes can not be bought so easily.
I'll get more into this option later.
