I don"t worry about "swine flu". I stopped picking up pigs in bars along time ago.

On a serious note regarding flu and vaccinations, our youngest son was required to get the flu vaccine in order to get his visa to the U.S. The Embassy-approved doctor told us he could get the vaccine at "her" clinic or at one of our choosing, but that if we went somewhere else we needed to make sure that we got the "Northern Hemisphere" vaccine, as the Southern Hemisphere was not approved in the U.S. and thus would not count for his visa and entrance to the U.S.

So, the question arises, will the swine flu vaccine that is supposedly on its way to Peru be the same as that offered in the U.S.? And what about the regular flu vaccine- what's the difference?

Micah I don't have an answer for you on this but I'll add a bit of info that I've come across.

I have an Aunt that works at a "Head start" program. Basically day care for single mothers, if you want you child to attend this program they are forced to get the H1N1 vaccine.

If you refuse you get kicked out, period end of story no questions asked. Were waiting for them to try this in the regular school system next.

They made an attempt to get all "Nurses" in the state (NJ) take the shot, but they won and were allowed to opt out.

There has been a lot of news and government reports of the ravages of the swine flu, but I wonder haow many people actually know someone who has contracted it?

My best friend's wife was diagniosed with H1N1 on Saturday and it has hit her hard. She is in her late 40s and overall was in good health. However not only did the swine flu give all of the usual flu like sysmtoms (fever, aches, diarrea, weakness) but it also seems to have exasterbated a pretty bad case of pneumonia. She is starting to recover, so that is good news and she may get to return home on Friday, but will definately stay at home recouperating for anther week.
